Best Start San Fernando Valley is looking for 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations to participate in our 3rd Annual Participatory Budget Project! This year, Best Start San Fernando Valley will grant six nonprofit organizations with up to $75k that will go into effect in the 2023 – 2024 fiscal year. Your organization will work closely with our Project Team Leaders and community members to develop a new program or enhance an existing program that addresses the community-identified priorities and sub-categories in:

•Mental Health and Emotional Well-being
• Suicide prevention
• Nutrition, physical and mental exercise

•Technology Understanding the School System
• Digital literacy
• Digital language

•Protective Factors within Family Support & Education
• Positive parenting
• Child Development

•Leadership and advocacy with a focus on Homelessness and/or housing insecurity, Affordable Health Care, Affordable Childcare
• General Leadership
• General Advocacy

By filling out the 2022 – 2023 Best Start – United in Action Application, you and your organization can expect to hear from a Best Start representative in December to begin interviews.

This month the Northeast Valley Community and Panorama City & Neighbors welcomed 27 new dedicated community members that will work alongside Best Start staff to facilitate, coordinate, and support our efforts. Each leader will help ensure that our Best Start communities are properly represented and continue to focus on supporting children 0 – 5 and their families. In addition, our leaders will have the opportunity to gain leadership and professional development skills through a variety of training and group building activities. We are honored to work alongside such an amazing group of hard working and selfless community leaders!

Este mes la Comunidad del Noreste del Valle y Panorama City & Neighbors dieron la bienvenida a 27 nuevos miembros de la comunidad dedicados que trabajarán junto al personal de Best Start para facilitar, coordinar y apoyar nuestros esfuerzos. Cada líder ayudará a asegurar que nuestras comunidades Best Start estén debidamente representadas y continúen centrándose en el apoyo a los niños de 0 a 5 años y sus familias. Además, nuestros líderes tendrán la oportunidad de adquirir habilidades de liderazgo y desarrollo profesional a través de una variedad de actividades de formación y creación de grupos. Since 2019, Best Start San Fernando Valley has collaborated with community members and local partner organizations to roll out the Participatory Budget Project (PBP). The PBP’s revolutionary framework allows Best Start SFV to identify the community’s most pressing needs and priorities while working with the community to develop new programs that aim to address those issues. The Participatory Budget Project process is ultimately granting our community members the ability to determine how public funding is invested!   

This month, our Best Start San Fernando Valley Regional Council hosted its first meeting on August 25th to kick-off the 2022 – 2023 Participatory Budget Project process! At this meeting, members received the 10-month project timeline and began to discuss the planification of Phase 1: Planning the Design Process. Phase 1 is designed to involve the greater community to participate in this equitable process and on September 22^nd from 10 am – 12 pm, YOU will have the opportunity to join! If you are a parent, community member, stakeholder or local organization that wants to help address important issues throughout the San Fernando Valley or provide recommendations for needed resource, we encourage you to join and be a apart of the change!

Desde 2019, Best Start San Fernando Valley ha colaborado con los miembros de la comunidad y las organizaciones locales asociadas para desplegar el processo del Proyecto de Presupuesto Participativo (PBP). El marco revolucionario del PBP permite a Best Start SFV identificar las necesidades y prioridades más apremiantes de la comunidad, al tiempo que trabaja con la comunidad para desarrollar nuevos programas que tienen como objetivo abordar esos problemas. El proceso del Proyecto de Presupuesto Participativo otorga a los miembros de nuestra comunidad la capacidad de determinar cómo se invierten los fondos públicos.    

Este mes, nuestro Consejo Regional Best Start San Fernando Valley organizó su primera reunión el 25 de agosto para iniciar el proceso del Proyecto de Presupuesto Participativo 2022 – 2023. En esta reunión, los miembros recibieron el cronograma del proyecto de 10 meses y comenzaron a discutir la planificación de la Fase 1: Planificación del Proceso de Diseño. La Primera Fase está diseñada para involucrar a la comunidad en general para participar en este proceso equitativo y el 22 de septiembre de 10 am – 12 pm, ¡Usted tendrá la oportunidad de unirse! ¡Si usted es un padre, un miembro de la comunidad, una parte interesada o una organización local que quiere ayudar a abordar cuestiones importantes en todo el Valle de San Fernando o proporcionar recomendaciones para los recursos necesarios, le animamos a unirse y ser parte del cambio!
